What's in a Name?

What do you think of when you hear the word MAGNUM?

Maybe.....



Or Maybe Even.....


But now in the US is .....

 

I thought that relating to the audience was important in branding. To market this ice cream product in the United States with the name "Magnum" is a great mystery to me. The name is associated with so many other things that have well-established associations with the American audience. I would like to know other opinions on this topic. Maybe it will take some confusion out of this twisted brain of mine. How important is a brand's name? Will this taint the the intended perceptions of this ice cream brand?
