Public Enemy is a Hip Hop group who has historically displayed greatness in Black nationalism and politics in music. They are definitely innovators of the music industry, and have made an irreversible impact on Hip Hop. They bring messages that matter to Black Americans over unique beats with amazing delivery. Their messages are often controversial, but give us important topics to ponder.
Today's Music Monday selection is brought to you by Public Enemy with the song "By the Time I Get to Arizona" The song was released in 1991 on their Apocalypse 91… The Enemy Strikes Black album.
This song is about the fact that Evan Mecham, former Arizona governor and known racist, refused to recognize Martin Luther King Day as a national holiday. At the time the track was released, only two states did not recognize the holiday. Those states were Arizona and New Hampshire. Fortunately, all 50 states now recognize the national holiday. I hope you all enjoy today's history lesson and music selection. Comments are welcomed and encouraged. Thanks!
